Spring Term Second Half Message

I cannot believe we are already halfway through the year and how quick it has gone! This half term we have lots of exciting things to look forward to including World Book Day, Science Week and our Space topic. Here’s to another half term full of fun and busy learning!

The Snowflake Room

Our Classroom is named The Snowflake Room. Alongside focussed activities, we can learn in the continuous provision areas. We have a Home Corner, Reading Area, Understanding the World/Fine Motor Area, Writing Area, Mathematics Area, Sand Area and Construction Area.

The Rainbow Room

The Rainbow room is a lovely big room where the children access continuous learning through a variety of played based activities. This is a shared resource with Reception.

Our Outdoor Area

The Annexe

We now have a wet room to enable our children to change into waterproofs and wellies so they can access our new equipment safely - and mainly, keep clean and dry! The Rain and Shine room has also been adapted to house even more new outdoor resources and equipment which can be accessed by the children during independent learning time.

Reading

Year 1 Recommended Reading List

Giving children access to all varieties of literature is extremely important for their success. Reading is a key life skill which is crucial to developing language skills and access to the wider curriculum. It provides children with the chance to respond and develop personal opinions encouraging deeper thoughts and their imagination.  Our aim is to develop a love and passion for reading both at home and school.  We have specially selected high quality reading books for each year group.  Some of these books can be found in the classroom and some are available for loan at Lees library. Encourage your child to read as many of these books as possible throughout the year.

Please select the document below to see the books we recommend.

Things to Remember - Spring Term Second Half

PE. DAY Friday - PE is on a Friday and this half term we will be focusing on games. Please make sure that your child has the correct PE kit on and has both joggers and shorts for indoor/outdoor PE.

Library Day Thursday - Each week we will be going to Lees library on a Thursday and the children will have the opportunity to choose a new book during each visit as well as listening to a story read by Miss Bamber. Please ensure your child has their library book in their book bag every Thursday so they can return it and pick a new book.

Outdoor Learning - Please make sure your child brings a coat to school everyday. Outdoor learning is a vital part of your child's learning and will happen on a daily basis. We kindly ask for you to provide us with a pair of wellies for your child which can be kept in school so the children can go and learn outdoors in all weathers! The wellies need to be labelled with the child’s name or initials please.
