Covid-19 Catch Up Programmes (CUPs) 2020-2021

The government announced £1 billion of funding to support children and young people catch up on lost learning because of the enforced school closures due to the Coronavirus pandemic. This is especially important for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children in society. This funding includes a one-off universal £650 million catch up premium for the 2020 to 2021 academic year to ensure that schools have the support they need to help all pupils make up for lost teaching time.

It is allocated as £80 per pupil from Reception to Year 6 inclusive based on the number of children attending on the date of our school census in October 2020.

At St Thomas’ Leesfield we have called these session Catch-Up-Programmes (CUPs) and have therefore used the funding to provide intensive support for our children as they returned to school in September 2020 onwards.  This included an assessment of learning to identify gaps from their previous year group, as well as additional staff in the classrooms to carry out targeted interventions.  CUPs run throughout the school day as well as after school clubs for Year 1 to Year 6.

We value the contributions from home with regards to support and re-enforcing learning at home.  When learning is sent home to consolidate session in CUPs, please continue to support your child to help narrow the gaps further.
