Reading

Year 3 Recommended Reading List

Giving children access to all varieties of literature is extremely important for their success. Reading is a key life skill which is crucial to developing language skills and access to the wider curriculum. It provides children with the chance to respond and develop personal opinions encouraging deeper thoughts and their imagination.  Our aim is to develop a love and passion for reading both at home and school.  We have specially selected high quality reading books for each year group.  Some of these books can be found in the classroom and some are available for loan at Lees library. Encourage your child to read as many of these books as possible throughout the year.

Please select the document below to see the books we recommend.

Home Learning

Home Learning

Homework

  • Weekly homework is incorporated into the nine sections of the Homework Grid. The Homework Grid needs to be completed each week and signed by an adult.

Reading

  • Children are expected to read to an adult at least three times a week, if not daily. Please write a note in the planner every time you read with your child.

Spellings

  • Spellings will be sent home each Thursday and tested the following week.

Planner to go home every night for the ease of communication with parents.

All planners will be checked on guided reading day and it must be signed by a parent weekly.

We expect the children to read every day and practise their spellings for a test on Fridays. Homework grids need to be completed weekly and signed to be checked alongside the planners every Friday. We would like the children to consolidate their x tables knowledge at least 3x per week on TTRockstars (logins in planners).

Why not… find out about Egyptian mummies and see if you can make one over the half term holiday? Or you could investigate shadows and how they are changing. Can you make a shadow puppet? Lots of House points for super home learning

Encourage your child to complete and return any homework on time, including our 9 Grid weekly homework.

Discuss your child’s learning and topic work and ask about their Always Badge.

We will be visiting the library now on alternate weeks, but please makes sure children have their library books every Tuesday.

Your child will need his / her planner everyday so that we are able to keep in contact.

PE will still be on Tuesdays and Thursdays- please be ready in your kit. We will need named indoor pumps for our gymnastics this half term. This half term, our indoor PE will have a gymnastics focus. We will be working on rolls, balancing and creating sequences using mats and apparatus. Outdoor games will be skills-based team games.
